My New Baby

I know that a lot of you probably think I'm quite crazy, what with accumulating these dollhouses at record pace lately.  Well, join the club, because just about everyone I know in real life has thought I'm crazy for years!!!  But really, how can you pass something like this up when it practically jumps through the computer at you off of Craigslist??  The answer is not to stalk Craigslist, you say?  Hmmm, maybe I should consider that..., as I am most definitely running out of room for these babies lately!

Well, anyway, here she is!  A vintage Rich Toy Co. Tudor house (thanks, Kim, for helping me identify her!) that I bought from a sweet lady off Craigslist.  The house originally belonged to her mother, but she claimed it as a girl. It was her favorite childhood toy, even though she admits she was quite a tomboy!  Her mother wanted to throw it out with the trash several times, but she saved it time and again, until she decided she had no room for it, and decided to sell it.  I let her know that I would take good care of it, and even sent her a photo of it displayed in my studio, which she was thrilled with!

It came with a handful of furniture pieces, no windows or door, and carpeted floors.

After inspecting it, I realized that the second floor and walls were made from thin plywood that had seen better days.  I'm assuming these were cut and added at a later date, because usually these houses are all masonite, but I'm not sure.  I took it apart to see about refurbishing it.  My wonderful husband must have been in a very good mood, because he cut new floors and walls for me the very next day out of masonite!  I painted the masonite offwhite to match the walls, etc., and put it back together.

When I put it back together, I tried the original floor (in pretty bad shape) on the bottom, and can't decide whether I like it or the repainted new floor better.

Here is the painted floor on the bottom.  What do you think?  Should I use the original or the repainted one?

I had to do some rearranging (the story of my life!) in order to fit her in, but look at how perfectly she fits on that shelf!  She was meant to be mine, I think!

And one last look!  (I'll need to fashion some new windows and a door....)

And just a little more cuteness for this post....

The two dapper young guys started school last week (Riley in 1st and Noah in K)!

And this little girly is home with me until she starts preschool next week!  Then I will be FREE!!! Or at least for three mornings a week- ha!

Hope you're all enjoying this start to the school season!

  8. I vote for the new floor; you have already replaced the dilapidated walls/floors, so you might as well go for the "as meant to be" look, rather than the "preserved as is" look.
