Oh my, I'm embarrassed to admit how many hours I spent on the painting above, working, and reworking, and reworking, and reworking again. There are so many layers of paint on there, it's not even funny!
As I was agonizing over it, I couldn't decide why I was having such a hard time with it, until I realized- it's symmetrical. I don't ever work symmetrically, and it just seemed to be lacking any spontaneousness or any movement. But I was too far in to change the basic structure of the painting, so I kept trying.
In the end, I added these large scallops on the sides, and was finally satisfied enough to call it quits. I'm okay with the finished product, but I definitely don't think I'll be trying a symmetrical painting again anytime soon!
This piece, on the other hand, I'm very pleased with! Notice how Asymmetrical it is!
I found this vintage ship illustration, and was really taken by the colors and lines in it.
I always love including vintage illustrations in my collage paintings, especially of little children.
And gotta throw in some fun doodles as well!
So that's what I've been working on lately. I still have intentions to start selling prints of my paintings, but haven't yet been able to figure out the printing end of the process. Hopefully soon!!
